This article is written for GPs and specialists who are considering referring patients to Aeterna Health Queensland for cellular therapy assessment. It covers the referral process, patient selection considerations, and what practitioners can expect in terms of communication and clinical governance.

Which Patients Are Appropriate to Refer?

Aeterna Health Queensland accepts referrals from GPs and specialists across a range of conditions where cellular therapies are being actively researched. Current areas of clinical focus include osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal conditions, autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, and neurological conditions where evidence is emerging.

A referral does not commit the patient to treatment. All referred patients undergo a specialist consultation and formal suitability assessment. Clinical suitability is determined by the specialist, not by the referring practitioner or the patient.

The Referral Process

Referrals can be made by phone, email, or via the referral enquiry form on our website. A brief clinical overview is helpful but not required at the point of referral. Our clinical team will contact you within 48 business hours to discuss the case and advise on next steps.

Communication and Clinical Governance

Referring practitioners receive written communication following specialist consultation and, where the patient proceeds, following the procedure. The patient’s ongoing care remains with the referring practitioner. Aeterna does not assume the role of primary care provider.

All procedures are performed at Southport Day Hospital under full clinical governance. Adverse event reporting protocols are active and documented.
